Jovan Mirković (born in 1943 in Subocki Grad (Brezovac Subocki), near Novska in Slavonia; died in 2020 in Belgrade). He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo, Department of History, where he also attended postgraduate studies.
He was director of the Jasenovac Memorial Site from 1978 to 1980 and from 1990 to 1991. In November 1991 he fled from Croatia to Sarajevo. He lived in Belgrade since May 1992. He worked in the Museum of Victims of Genocide from 1999 to 2013 as a museum advisor.
The primary focus of Mirković’s historiographical work is the genocide against the Serbian people in the Independent State of Croatia. He published the study “Objavljeni izvori i literatura o jasenovačkim logorima” (“Published Sources and Literature about Jasenovac Camps”), Belgrade–Banjaluka, 2000 (bibliography with an analysis of around 2500 titles of books and articles). He also published more than fifty essays in collections of papers and magazines, and edited around thirty collections of essays, catalogues and other books. He participated in a number of conferences. As an author or co-author, he organised several thematic exhibitions on genocide.
